Are Rocks The Right Choice For Your Plant Beds
As with any question besides math they are always two answers. We often receive request to install rocks inside plant beds from our landscaping clients. For residential properties most of the time I advise against it. Of course we will always provide the requested services to any client (as long as it to our/industry standards), its just my job to bring my experience with dealing with landscaping everyday since 2009 into the discussion/consultation.

Yes in general rocks would be the best product for any plant bed, but “in general” is just that. With every property comes different factors and misconceptions.
- The first is that once a client install rocks they no longer have to do the beds again and they will look the same. This is not true rocks will need to be refreshed over time due to debris build up even with regular blowing.
- Will kids be playing in the lawn? If so more than likely, they will play with the rocks and leave the inside the lawn. This can become a hazard when kicked up while mowing.
We just ask clients to remember nothing can be used in plant beds that will eliminate maintenance.
